The Challenge to Forgive

The shooting at Perry Hall High school has caused many of us to ask the question, “How do I forgive?”

In time like this faithful people look to scripture to find comfort and they are confronted with the challenge to forgive no matter what.  Ephesians 4:32 says: “forgive one another, as God in Christ forgave you”.  These are powerful words, difficult words, but words that are at the core of our faith.

The message of scripture is one that can be incredibly hard to hear in times like this. Jesus message of God’s Love and Forgiveness for anyone sounds too impossible to achieve and yet it is exactly that kind of forgiveness that can bring healing into our life.

Letting go of anger and bitterness is not easy. Sometimes it takes a lifetime to reach a place where we can say that we have truly forgiven.  Jesus lived, died and rose again to make it possible for anyone to receive forgiveness. As His followers how can we do any less?

May God show us the way to offer forgiveness to all and thereby redeem ourselves and the world.
