Musical Adventures at PHUMC ~

Adult Choir~

The church choir at PHUMC is focused on augmenting the music program at the church.  Our purpose is to praise and glorify God through our music.  We provide a mix of traditional and contemporary musical styles.  Four-part music, as well as unison anthems are performed.  Some anthems involve a singer or singers to perform a solo.  The choir is always open to adding additional singers.  An ability to read music is not a requirement.  Participants in the choir will say they are blessed to have this special avenue to be able to praise the Lord.

Praise Band~

Since 1997, Crossbound, PHUMC’s Praise Band has been a part of Sunday Worship. Founded by Denise Boyd, this group brings music in a folksy style – from guitars, keyboards, to percussion!

We welcome musicians with any instrument ability (we even have had violin & clarinet in the group) who likes Christian Contemporary music to come and join us for a fun time worshipping the Lord.

We practice on Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM, right after the adult choir practice. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord with our Praise Band!!

Anyone interested (musicians or singers) may text or call Don Appel at: 443-991-0189.    We would love for you to ‘hear’ from you!

Folk Music Night~

The monthly Saturday Folk Music Night at Perry Hall United Methodist Church is an open mic event that also includes a featured performer. It starts at 7:00 PM and ends around 10:00. The event is open to the public and open to all ages. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Admission is free, but we do welcome donations. It is held in the Fellowship Hall. Refreshments are provided, including coffee, tea, cold drinks, and light snacks. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own refreshments to share.

Anyone who wishes is welcome to perform as part of the open mic. Each participant gets to do 3 songs. Participants put their names on the sign-up sheet when they arrive. People play in the order in which their names appear on the sheet. Of course, we welcome anyone who wants to attend just to listen. (The audience is welcome to “sing along”.)

It’s called the “Folk Music Night”, but the songs don’t have to be “folk music”. Any genre of music is allowed, except for Rap.

We have a featured performer each month (solo artist or group) who plays for 40 minutes starting around 8:15. The performers are usually from the Baltimore/Washington area but sometimes come from farther away.
