Hello again!

Apparently, there are people who are now sending emails which claim to be from me; they ARE NOT from me. They ask you to reply to the email- DO NOT REPLY.

Earlier this week, a few church members received texts claiming to be from me, and yesterday, a few people received emails with the same message. These people state that the pastor is in a meeting or in the midst of prayer and fasting and needs help. The “help” they are asking for is the purchase of gift cards which would be sent digitally. They are attempting to steal gift cards which you would send to them.

As reminders-

Whenever you receive a text or email, take a breath, pause, and carefully check the address/phone number from which it was sent. If the email address (in the case of an email) or the phone number (in the case of a text) is not known to you or is not the address/number associated with the person you think is sending it, do not reply – DELETE it. You can then directly contact the person who supposedly sent it to check if they sent an email or text to you.

As a personal note – I would never email or text a church member to ask for gift cards or any kind of money. Perry Hall UMC has rigorous safeguards around our money and I would use the appropriate channels to request any funds needed. As an ethical professional, I would never request money for any personal reason, either.

I request your prayers for these thieves who are using my name for sinful purposes!
